13 April 2016 : Haryana Government has decided to change the name of Gurgaon district. On 12th April, Tuesday, the government of Haryana had announced that Gurgaon will now be known as Gurugram.

After this announcement, this topic starts firing on social media. But what made Chief Minister Mr. Manohar Lal Khattar to change the name of Gurgaon, which is the face of Developing Haryana not only in India but also around the globe.
So, without wasting your much of time, here are the reasons according to Haryana government that leads to change the name of Gurgaon to Gurugram.
According to Haryana Government, it was a public demand. People of Gurgaon district was making demands regarding this.

According to official spokesperson of Haryana Government, changing the name from Gurgaon to Gurugram has been taken on various basis of representations.
“Haryana is a historic land of the Bhagwat Gita and Gurgaon had been a centre of learning”, said the spokesperson.
He further added that,”It had been known as Gurgaon since the times of Guru Dronacharya. Gurgaon was a great center of education where the princes used to be provided education. Therefore, since long the people of the area had been demanding that Gurgaon be renamed as Gurugram”
