Tamil Nadu MLA SM Seenivel Passes Away on Oath Taking Day

25 May 2016 : In an unfortunate incident, SM Seenivel, the newly elected MLA of AIADMK, breathed his last a hospital in Madurai. He was elected from Madurai’s Thiruparankundram constituency.

Seenivel had suffered a stroke only a day earlier when the counting of votes began. His grandson S Gopi revealed that Seenivel was admitted in the hospital on 18th May, due to his poor health condition post the stroke.

He was in hospital at the time the results were declared and failed to be a part of the celebrations marking the victory. The news of the win was delivered to him while he was at hospital.

Due to his condition, he also failed to attend the swearing in of the cabinet of Jayalalithaa. He was scheduled to take oath on 25th May with other elected MLA’s but passed away before that.

Seenivel had long been a patient of high blood pressure that was eventually the cause of his stroke. It was indeed sad that he could not even rejoice his victory and passed away at the age of 65.

Jayalalithaa and her other MLA’s have expressed grief over the death of Seenivel.
